With all that is happening in our country and in our world today, it does something for me when artists use their gifts and platforms as tools for change! That's exactly what two of my favorite artists have done with "The Lion's Awakening"! Joy Conaway and JK Howells are no stranger to this site, and for good reason..they are two incredible gifts to music. It's also worth mentioning that this feature is technically about more than two of my faves.. the song is co written by Brik Liam, and produced by the duo we know and love as The Gigabots! I am here for this marriage in music.

Amid the frustration, heart ache, and disappointment provided by the relentless stories of police brutality, racism, and injustice.. "The Lion's Awakening" speaks to the inspiration that rises up inside of the courageous! These acts are heartbreaking, but they have prompted a new generation to get active in the present day civil rights movement, and this song provides the soundtrack!

I'm so proud of this group. You guys know I totally love these artists, but I have to sprinkle sugar on top of that when they push through for something bigger than a dope song. Get into "The Lion's Awakening" below.

Every fire stars with a flame
Every river starts with a stream
We cannot be tamed, lion where’s your mane?

Once had a choir that herald your name
Once had a kingdom that cherished your mane
Threw you to the ground, tore your kingdom down

Although we’ve been weeping
My brothers stop sleeping
Our hearts have been broken, but our posture remains
Our cubs have been slaughtered
Your sons and your daughters
Though we lay in sorrow, the lion’s awakening

So come my dear brother and rise to your feet
We have been waiting, for UNITY
Join us in our pride, standing side by side

Although we’ve been weeping
My brothers stop sleeping
Our hearts have been broken, but our posture remains
Our cubs have been slaughtered
Your sons and your daughters
Though we lay in sorrow, the lion’s awakening

Don’t fear us
Stand with us
We matter
You matter

Although we’ve been weeping
My brothers stop sleeping
Our hearts have been broken, but our posture remains
Our cubs have been slaughtered
Your sons and your daughters
Though we lay in sorrow, the lion’s awakening
Though we lay in sorrow, the lion’s awakening

Though we lay in sorrow, we are awakening
