Finally someone in the media gets it right, and if I had to bet my right hand on who it would be I would've chosen this guy. Jon Stewart and the Daily Show are always fun to watch. The guy is hilarious to me, but he's also not afraid to talk about the really important facts. Anytime something traumatic happens Jon comes through with a perspective that I can get behind.
This time, he's speaking on the tragic murder of nine people while in their place of worship. Jon, who is so funny that he's funny even when he's not trying to be; surrendered his typical jokester approach yesterday while discussing this terrible situation.
State Sen. Clementa Pinckney,Cynthia Hurd, 54; Tywanza Sanders, 26; Sharonda Singleton, 45; Myra Thompson, 59; Ethel Lance, 70; Susie Jackson, 87; Rev. Daniel Simmons Sr., 74; and DePayne Doctor, 49 were murdered in a terror attack by 21 yr old Dylann Roof while at The Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church Tuesday night. Since Dylann is a young white male the media is finding ways to smooth over his image.
I don't know that it's even a conscious thing for most anymore, but as Jon pointed out they've already started using the language we expected. He's not being called a terrorist, murderer, thug, or the other things used to describe brown people who commit such heinous acts. I won't blabber on about this, the point of this post was to point out once again that Jon Stewart is on the money.
Here is his segment about the Charleston Nine.
