As last night's Screen Actors Guild Awards unfolded, they proved to be a great night for some of my favorite shows and actresses.
Viola Davis plays an outstanding role in the hit series, How to Get Away with Murder. Last night she took home the outstanding lead drama actress award..which is huge for her. She delivered an extremely emotional speech responding to some of the critics who claimed she isn't as "classically beautiful" as say a Kerry Washington..whatever that means.
The night was also huge for another artist I love, Uzo Aduba plays a hilarious inmate on the Netflix hit Orange is the New Black. She took home the outstanding comedy actress award for her role. Uzo's speech was just as emotional and her reaction to winning was priceless.
These two women made history as both lead actress awards of the night went to Black women. This is huge because of the underwhelming representation of Black actors in significant roles in Hollywood. With shows like Scandal, HTGAWM, and even OITNB..it's about diversity and allowing for all actors to shine in their own way. I was totally pumped by this.
Congratulations to all winners from last night's awards!
