If you saw the live presentation of the current day adaptation of "The Wiz" last night on NBC, you saw a real treat. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the broadway hit turned classic film, NBC called on the a stellar cast! Mary J. Blige, Common, Queen Latifah, Amber Riley, Neyo, David Alan Grier, Elijah Kelley, Stephanie Mills, Uzo Aduba, and (making her television debut as Dorothy) Shanice Williams..were all phenomenal!

This time of the year is rough for lots of people. So many hormonal and emotional things come to head, and often without our control. Yesterday on my facebook timeline, there were at least 5 sisters (and by sisters I mean women) expressing how they were just spent emotionally. A few said they had no idea why they felt the way they did. I had to remind everyone that sometimes your body, mind, and spirit just need a moment. I reminded them that things will be OK, because I know they will be.

It's finally here! I got a chance to stop by this video shoot for Victor Jackson's new single "Bus of Love", and to see the finish product come together is pretty dope! Victor as many of you know is a super creative individual who manages to be a great singer, choreographer, stylist, writer, and on and on all at once. This guy is just super talented.
Wow is all I could say after watching this. The below video features three young women performing on the Queen Latifah Show. They are from an extraordinary program out of LA called, Get Lit..which aims to teach kids literacy through the art of the spoken word. A form of expression used to present poetry to an audience. I was completely blown away by this.

The Country Music Awards show is one of my favorites! This is mostly due to the fact that (as a song writer) I feel that lyrically country music has the best standard. Last night's CMAs aired with some really super cool performances, honest acceptance speeches, and of course our fave hosts- Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley.

This year's halloween costumes were next level, mainly due to the way social media has influenced creatives of all sorts to think outside of the box. People were acting out memorable celeb moments, the Morton Salt container, and classic movies like never before! I had quite a few favorite moments that I think are worth mentioning.
Every once in a while I hear a song that reminds me just why we say God is love. A song that makes it hard to really figure out just who the singer is serenading. You have to step back and ask yourself a few questions. Is this a song about longing for the physical touch of another human? Is this a beautiful worship song about longing to be closer to God? These songs are blatant reminders that real love in it's truest form is God's energy whether you're sharing it person to person or in reverence to God alone.

The type of success Adele had after releasing her last album 21 (2011), is almost unheard of. Here are the receipts...She swept six Grammy Awards-one being Album of the Year, went on to win an Academy Award for a song she recorded for 007. Adele's 21 album holds the title of Best Selling album of the Decade in the UK. It has reemerged to sell thousands of records at the most random times throughout the years. The album has now sold well over 11 million copies since it dropped, and it spent 24 weeks at no 1 on Billboard 200.

It hasn't even been a full month since Tiff Joy released her self titled debut album. Before she knew it, she'd gone from a sought out worship leader in Chicago to household name. First was the hit song, "Amazing" that she penned (and ultimately went on to record with Ricky Dillard). The record took over gospel radio. Then came the Stellar Award win for Song of the Year for the same track, and then...just as I predicted.. a placement on the coveted top 5 Gospel albums on Billboard. Win after win after win.

The name Justin Gilbert (or "Bishop" as many like to refer to him) goes far in the music industry these days. He's had a long road up to this point. Starting out singing and playing in his family's church, Justin was groomed into an exceptional musician! Now, years later he can be found touring with the likes of Justin Timberlake, and releasing his own debut album, ALIGNED. This release is one most thought would come way sooner, but things don't always happen as we think they should. When the time was right, a life altering moment pushed Gilbert into full devotion to his purpose. That moment in time is the reason I'm here now telling you about his debut offering.

Oprah Winfrey's religious beliefs have always been under much scrutiny from the "Christian" community. I quote because the harsh reality is... who and what isn't these days? The question is also whether the term Christian means much at all to the world when many of us are so far away from the example set by Christ. Anyway.. another blog for another day.

Rihanna's no stranger to magazine cover stories. Actually I'd venture to say that some even think her to be a real life model at this point. Though she hasn't released an actual album in whats going to be 3 years in November...She has graced countless magazine covers and spreads. Rih has done quite a few interviews in that time, though they didn't tell us much about the pop star that we didn't already know. Vanity Fair and Lisa Robinson aimed to stand out from the crowd with their Rihanna story, and they did just that.

Amber Rose Cries While Delivering Heartfelt Speech at Her Controversial Slut Walk Event + I Finally Get It
Most of us had no clue what Amber Rose was up to when she started to mention this whole Slut Walk LA movement. Many people took to their social media accounts to try to publicly voice to Amber that they thought it was stupid, for lack of a better word. Even some well known folks on twitter exchanged tweets with Amber against the idea of it all.. Amber pressed on anyway. The event occurred this weekend, and it seems to me that now after the fact more people are coming around to the point. I'll admit, I understood what Amber was thinking, but I had several reservations as to whether it would be effective or not. Watching the footage from Amber's speech at the rally made me realize a few things. This is a woman who we really haven't heard out. As we have done time and again with beautiful famous women, we assumed with Amber.

Keeyen Martin is a name making it's rounds on the music scene here in Atlanta. You BabyKayKs who keep up with me on social media know him as one of the #ArtistsYouShouldKnow features I'm constantly posting. There are all sorts of artists out there these days, but Keeyen sets himself a part in so many ways. His voice is intricate, sweet, and even jovial somehow. I love it! His music not only sounds good, but because of his undeniable positive energy..it feels extra special too!

Tamar better get this coin honey! I feel like this chick is everywhere right now, and whats crazy is she hasn't even really began the real album promo run. She recently revealed the cover art (above) for her new album, Calling All Lovers which was set to drop this month. It's been pushed back a little, but that isn't stopping Tamar from giving her Tamartians the attention we are all craving. From Dancing With the Stars, to Braxton Family Values, and The Real.. this baby is everywhere!
Janelle Monae and her Wondaland crew have dropped some real jams in recent months. They are coming in and taking over your radio, and I for one welcome it. It's refreshing! Every artist on the team has a unique sound and offering that they bring to the table. This is evident with one listen to their EP, The Eephus. The team is super talented.

This super cool video from the Buzzfeed staff is on time! In the wake of the story of 14 year old Ahmed Mohamed's arrest for being smart, Muslim, and brown.. some of us need a friendly reminder of what all Muslims are not. We need a reminder that our brothers and sisters who are Muslim are everyday people just like us, and that their faith doesn't make them terrorists or dangerous.

You guys know that I love this chic. She's my friend and my fave! She's no stranger to this site because she's been so consistent with quality music that we can all get into. This time is no different. India Shawn is teaming up with one of the hottest movements out of Atlanta.. the WERC crew for a project they're calling the RE-WERC. Now, you may not know who all of the members are, but if you're about that social life here in Atlanta you know that the WERC team is definitely the new wave.

Yesterday was a holiday for many people. It was the birthday of King Bey, and everyone knows that Bey Day is a cause for celebration. Beyonce is easily the best performer of our time, and she's loved by many. Her birthday every year is a time for people to show her (more than usual) that they truly dig her as a person and as an artist.
This year, Tidal did a cute little blog dedicated to Bey. They had her family members share a song that reminds them of their relationship with her. Everyone from her parents to little Blue Ivy dedicated something sweet to Beyonce on her big day. Some of the songs bring back memories of fun times Bey shared with them. Some of the songs connect on a deeper and more emotional level.
This was a cute idea because songs often can relay feelings better than we can. I'm sure Bey had a beautiful birthday, and I know this tribute had something to do with it. Check out the song dedications to Beyonce below. Of course I love Jay's the most. He loves his bae! Happy Birthday Beyonce!

It's finally here! Just over a week ago Chicago's own Shanta Gray released her debut project! Her name/voice became a regular on many favorite gospel songs by artists out of Chicago starting back in the 1990s. Even though Shanta began at an early age singing and sharing her talents, her voice became most noticeable when she took the lead on a few singles by Chicago Mass, New Direction, and Praise II choirs. Jams like New D's "New Revelation", "Come in the House", "Heaven", and "By Grace" all featured that unique but powerful voice on lead.

The couple have been together for years, and viewers have been able to follow almost every step of their relationship on the hit television show.

This whole week I'm going to be dishing out some really dope and fresh music. I've been holding on to this gem for a while just trying to decide when to share it with you guys. The name Rahbi is everywhere on the music scene here in Atlanta. This guy was one of the livest experiences I had at a show when I first moved to Georgia.

We're going to get into some new music this week! Recently more than ever I've been getting hit up by my music friends/associates who have some fresh material to share with the world. I'm going to start with this fun and uplifting song by two artists I love. These two are not new to our site, but we welcome them every time we can get them!

LeBron James is one celebrity who not only contributes well to his field of entertainment, but he also contributes to causes that highly impact his target audiences' real lives. Some may have questioned his devotion to his home state when he decided to leave the Cavs a few years back. Other true Ohioans knew, he was in fact a die hard Ohioan himself, and would never really leave his hometown for long. Not only did he return, but he's been giving back to his community in a major way. For the past five years LeBron has sponsored the I Promise Program-which is founded by his LeBron James Family Foundation.

Misty Copeland has for a while been a popular name among the ballet industry-mainly just because she's an incredible dancer with so much grace it's ridiculous. What many people don't know about this gorgeous, athletic, and soft spirited woman is -had she left her love for ballet in the hands of other people, we probably wouldn't know her name at all today.

No.. I haven't stopped blogging. Even someone like me who fully enjoys her life deserves a little vacation from it all. :) For the first week of August I was in Jamaica living it up with my friends. I'm back now, but would like my first post to be a little more personal than usual. Here's another long one...
When I learned one of my closest girlfriends from college was set to get married in Jamaica this year I was overjoyed for a couple of reasons. One being that this would be the first time in seven years that all seven of my closest college girlfriends would be in one place, and because one of them had truly found the love of her life. EXCITING! Among the partying, sun bathing, tubing, and celebrating were a few very valuable lessons learned. I truly am a better woman thanks to Kimberly Floyd (Sleee lol ), MRS. Kisha Porcher (KeeshBeesh), Anyah Brou (Anyahybyah), Sarah Wooten (Sarahbarah), McAllister Windom (MAC), and Tracey Lucas (Trini)...and of course Im going to tell you why!

I can't tell you the last time I was this engaged in a rap beef of any sort. The main reason I'm riding this one so hard is out of sheer frustration.
Meek Mill a loud mouthed, self proclaimed "hood" rapper from Philly obviously was in his feelings the night he took to twitter to vent. Toronto native, and less "hood" rapper Drake was one of his targets. Mill claims that the highly praised songwriter/lyricist doesn't pen all of his own rhymes- arguably the worst type of jab you can throw at a rapper of Drake's caliber.

I don't know about you guys, but lately I've been an emotional mess with all of the bad news circulating. Not to be dismissive of the current and real struggles people are facing, or the tragedy of people losing their lives in senseless manners; but it has been extremely draining day to day. Sometimes we need a little positivity break.

Cicely Tyson seems to be getting more and more fine with age. This woman is 90 or 82 years young (no one really knows as we have 2 years for her birthdate) with the spirit and style of a woman half her age. She's not slowing down with work either. While speaking at an even for the Spirit of a Dream Gala, the entertainment vet announced that she's actually headed back to Broadway to star in the hit classic, The Gin Game.

Lil Wayne Speaks on Having to Be Sold on Drake, Juvenile's Impact on His Career, Young Thug and More!
On the 4th of July, we Tidal subscribers got a special treat from Lil Wayne. His new project FWA was unexpected. Weezy has been making headlines lately not really for his music, but for the drama surrounding his home team and supposed right hand man Baby and Cash Money. I think this interview is one of the best we've gotten from Wayne in a while. He gives us details on some stuff we've never really heard him allude to before.

If you haven't heard by now, Brandy is on Broadway starring as Roxy in Chicago!!! I didn't blog it, but I flew up there for just a couple of days just to see my fave shine in her element. Let me tell you guys, she was perfection!! She was so full of gratitude as well, it was awesome! I know some people couldn't see Brandy on Broadway initially, but in my mind it's a perfect marriage for the incredibly artistic and dramatic woman I call my fave. lol

The sweet sultry sound that grabs listeners when the lead single from songwriter/vocalist Shiena is played has been a long time in the making. I'll Wait for You is an introduction to many, but to Shiena it's just one more step towards fulfilling her purpose. After years of singing and writing for other artists, Shiena is finally ready to present her offering to music lovers!

The names Rodney Jerkins and Darkchild for most people are synonymous with number one songs and hit artists. For me I automatically think Brandy (of course) but his impact on music stretches all over the place. I think that's about to change juuuust a bit. When people hear the name Rodney Jerkins now, they're probably gonna start thinking Heavenly Joy after last night.. his babygirl is stealing the show.

The BET awards were full of great performances. Kendrick Lamar opened the show. Janelle Monae, Jidenna, Chris Brown, Tyga, Omarion, Nicki Minaj, Meek Mill, and an incredible Bad Boy Reunion were just some of the super dope sets. Tori Kelly blazed a tribute for Smokey Robinson along with Ne-Yo and Robin Thicke, and even the cast from Empire hit the stage.
