Stream: D'Angelo Releases First Album in 14 years- 'Black Messiah'

My excitement is so real right now. Music lovers have waited 14 long years for one of the best contributors to music history to drop another album. D'Angelo is arguably this generations best soul artist. He captured listeners almost twenty years ago with his incredibly smooth falsetto and his effortless sex appeal.

Black Messiah is his comeback album, and he released it really late Sunday night without hardly any promotion in mainstream music terms. What people may not realize is that people have been promoting this album for 14 years strong simply waiting on it to come out. Music lovers around the world- including many of D'Angelo's peers are simply elated about being able to listen to another full project from one of the greatest to do it.

When asked why he chose,  Black Messiah as the title, D'Angelo explained:

It’s about people rising up in Ferguson and in Egypt and in Occupy Wall Street and in every place where a community has had enough and decides to make change happen..
Listeners will definitely get that feel from a few of the records. The production side is also very similar to what we've come to love from D'Angelo. Just before dropping the album yesterday, he premiered a single, Sugah Daddy which - from the  moment I pressed play had the D'Angelo I love written all over it.

We have a few people to thank for finally getting our ears on another D'Angelo record. The incredible QuestLove co-produced the album and was instrumental in making sure D'Angelo came back to fans as we remember him. As for collaborations on the album- listeners will be familiar with Q-Tip, Pino Palladino, James Gadson, and Parliament Funkadelic collaborator Kendra Foster.

Check out the full stream of D'Angelo's new album, Black Messiah below, it's available now!
