This weekend was amazing for Atlanta Rihanna Navy. Rih flew into Atlanta for just one day to celebrate the launch of her Men's fragrance ROGUE here at Macy's (Lenox Mall). The first few hundred fans to purchase the fragrance on Friday were guaranteed a meet and greet with Rihanna when she stopped by.
Fans waited in long lines to purchase the fragrance, then came right back the next day and waited to meet their favorite artist. From the look of some tweets I saw, it was an incredible experience for the ATL base. Some even flew into the city for the chance to meet her. According to a couple of industry pals of mine, Rih was (as I've heard often) extremely sweet and probably just as excited to be there with her fans as they were to be there with her. She hugged and kissed kids, and the photos of her interacting with longtime fans are priceless.
Of course she looked amazing, rocking head to toe Adam Selman, and her usual jewelry galore. The turnout of thousands of fans is normal for Rihanna, but I'm sure it was even more intense because she's been laying really really low lately. Easily the Queen of fan interaction on social media, Rihanna has taken a more private approach to life recently, keeping her fans on an edge I've never seen before. She's probably just VERY consumed with her highly anticipated 8th studio album among all of her other business ventures.
The past year or so is a true testament to how the Rihanna brand has expanded to more than just music. Rih has been in the news media for an upcoming animated film for kids (Home), MAC launches, Modeling spreads, and now ROGUE. I'm sure this was supposed to be a break of some sort, but it doesn't look like Rihanna plays much when it comes down to establishing her name as a force in entertainment overall. I'm sure we will be getting R8 soon, but it was great for Rih to give some of her Navy a little bit to hang on to until then. I missed my girl this go round, AGAIN .. but I will see her for sure the next time she comes through the city.
