Mo'ne Davis is Featured in Teen Vogue
Spoken By
Kayki
Mo'ne Davis was first feature on here a few months ago after she made Little League World Series herstory ;) Since then, she's been everywhere showing off real girl power.
Recently, she was photographed for a Teen Vogue feature. She strikes a power pose in the above photo, and I think it's befitting. Mo'ne is gorgeous, but more important she's super talented. She's established her name and arm as a force among young and old athletes alike.
Relationships Advice: Sarah Jakes & Her Fiance' Pastor Toure' Roberts Talk Relationships!
Spoken By
Kayki
Before I get into talking about this video, I want to let you guys know how awesome Sarah is. In the spirit of social media.. let me give her my W.oman C.rush W.ednesday! Sarah Jakes was introduced to me on twitter. I knew of the last name, but I didn't really know anything about her. We followed one another on twitter, and then she heard my weird cry of having 999 followers on IG, and she came through with the BOOM to get me away from that weird number (LOL). She just comes off as genuine and querky, and semi reserved in a sense. As I started to pay Sarah attention I saw a lot of myself in her.
We have very similar backgrounds.. popular Pastor dads, powerful mothers, talented siblings, and the all too familiar microscopic lens on our lives because of it. As I read her book, Lost & Found I read so much of my own life story.Of course Sarah being Bishop Jakes' daughter was a whole next level kind of situation. Even though my microscope was city wide and hers nation wide, I felt her heart SO much. The lessons found in Sarah's life speak to all people, but as a Pastors kid, I was really thankful that there was finally a voice that not only spoke on our behalf, but that could also help Pastors and other leaders learn about what their children face. Excellent work.

Tiny Confirms She Changed Her Eye Color- Would You Ever Do It?
Spoken By
Kayki
Last week there was a buzz on the internets that singer/writer & business woman Tameka Tiny Harris (also TI's wife) had posted a photo on instagram claiming to have permanently changed her eye color. At first sight, I assumed it was just another random photo shopped photo floating around twitter, because obviously that’s a popular occurrence.
Monday Motivation from Yoga PhD: Put Yourself Out There!!!!!

When I first started my doctoral program, I was super lost! I am pursuing my PhD in Teaching and Teacher Education and minor in Education Policy. Because I am pursuing PhD and not an EdD, it requires a different level of thinking. I had never taken an philosophy course, or statistics course in my life! I began to doubt my abilities and my purpose of changing the arena of education for students of color. I knew that I was supposed to be in a doctoral program, but the only way that I was going to survive was to build relationships with people to develop skills that I lacked in, and further develop my strengths. This seems like a no-brainer right, but it was a bit intimidating being the only Black person in classes advocating for students of color that didn't reflect a deficit paradigm. (This is a different subject for another post.)

New Music: Thoughts on Joe Buddens OLS4 (explicit)?
Spoken By
Kayki
Music in any form has always been about expression, feeling, emoting.. Some rappers are better story tellers because they better express themselves in their lyrics. It's honorable in today's music scene to have a rapper who will be open and express their sensitive side vs rap about clubs, money, hoes, things that don't mean anything in the end.
Tyga Opens Up: Says Drake is Fake, Talks Why He Had to Take a Break From Chyna & More
Spoken By
Kayki

Young Money seems to be one of the tightest crews in the game. The artists are forever repping their set, with very few instances of any one of them showing unhappiness with the way things work over there. We've heard rumors in the past about Drake being unhappy at times, money issues, people not seeing checks, but that stuff usually comes and goes..until recently.

Share 2 Inspire: Inspired by TDE's SZA

Sometimes we all just need a moment to reflect and music has always been a way for me to escape. Certain artists have the ability to create music that inspires me to just travel with my thoughts. Erykah Badu, India Arie and Jill Scott to name a few but lately, TDE Recording Artist SZA has been taking me to another place with her recent EP release, Z.
Patience Tested...Yoga Improved

The year I started my doctoral program, I was still a full time 12th grade AP English teacher. I didn't realize just how much patience I didn't have until, one day I asked my students to pass up papers. The students began to pass the papers toward my desk. Not even a second later, I said pass up the papers. Then one more second passed, and I said it again. If you know 12th grade students, one of my kids said: Ms. Woods, chill! We are passing the papers up.

Tonight I joined a crowd of movers and shakers, creatives, and media outlets for an exclusive viewing of Glam Rock Soul Princess Dri Jack's new video for her banger Gossip. The room was packed as we mingled and prepared for the premiere. Dri entered decked out in a black and white number. She's so small and unassuming, but her personality and voice are huge! We all sat in anticipation of what Dri and her team had come up with for the visual.

Jagged Edge & B. Cox Host Private Listening Session for New Album- JE Heartbreak II
Spoken By
Kayki
Last night just as stores were closing, some exclusively invited guests packed out the location where a private listening session was being held for Jagged Edge. The place filled up quickly, and the energy was thick. The fellas have written and produced (along with Bryan- Michael Cox who sort of MC'd the whole session) an album that fans and supporters will love.
Jagged Edge maintains the same sound and approach to music that they've had since the beginning. Brandon and Brian elaborated on why that was important saying that they simply sing to and about women. The twins were there for the entire night. They were joined towards the end of the night by other member Kyle, but made sure to make note that they are still a group, the other two fellas were just unavailable.
First Steps: Yoga PhD Explains How Yoga Became A part of Her Life

I will never forget the day I was riding in the car with two women I admire, Traci and Nahliah, expressing how stressed I was. I had just finished my first semester as a part-time doctoral student, and a full time 12th grade Advanced Placement teacher. Nahliah, stated, "Kisha you have to take care of yourself." It wasn't something I hadn't heard, since Spelman. My parents did not have money to help me throughout college, so I worked full time at the Atlanta Airport and Forver21 to cover my bills, while going to Spelman full time.
