Lupita Nyong'o was recently announced as People Magazine's most beautiful person of 2014, but it's no secret that the flawless Oscar winning actress hasn't always felt beautiful. Lupita hasn't shied away at all from sharing her struggles with accepting her unique outward appearance.
After the whirlwind success of her performance in Academy Award winning 12 Years a Slave, Lupita used her platform to discuss the complexity of self acceptance and beauty. She's been open and honest about her personal struggle with those things and how one face similar to hers helped her come to appreciate her own.
Lupita shared that Sudanese supermodel Alek Wek has been one of her greatest inspirations. Alek's skin is just as kissed by the sun, her hair mostly worn in a short cut, and her face just as round as Lupita's. The resemblance helped to shape what Lupita understood as beautiful.
While Lupita shot her photoshoot for People, Alek made a special surprise visit. It's a really sweet moment to watch. They are so much for the eyes and ears- two incredibly beautiful and intelligent women. Check out the immensely inspirational Lupita Nyongo's special chat with her own inspiration below!
