Tiarah Speaks: Painted Faces, Racism and Exploitation in 2014
Spoken By
Tiarah
A white man dressed in blackface vs. a black man in whiteface. Is it racist or not? It is the year 2014, and while it is clear racism is still alive and well here in the United States, I will have to say that in the case of Nick Cannon and his "white face", it is not racist. Offensive to some? Sure, but not racist. The dictionary definition of a racist is: a person who believes in racism, the doctrine that a certain human race is superior to any or all others. From what we all know about Mr. Canon, is that he's an actor, a rapper, and a comedian. Why is it that "racist behavior" is automatically questioned and associated with this stunt of his?

India Shawn + James Fauntleroy Premiere Floating Away Off of their Upcoming Collaborative Album Outer Limits
Spoken By
Kayki
Two of my absolute favorite artists have announced a collaborative album. This is perfect. India Shawn and James Fauntleroy are among some of the most respected and loved creatives in the game. Neither is a stranger to this site, but if you are- India is a songwriter/singer whose voice is likened to honey, clear skies, and angels... and James Fauntleroy.. a songwriter/singer whose voice is pretty much like Sunday morning.

If Jay Z Wants to Diss You, Let Him
Spoken By
Kayki
Jay Z & Jay Electronica
The early years of my Jay Z fandom were tough! I was writing lots of poetry and somewhat introduced to the rapper Jay Z by my love for the rapper Nas. As I began to study Jay lyrically I was impressed by his word play, and really how smart he is. I was intrigued by the idea that he hadn't had an extensive formal education, but he studied things..and people. I really liked his composure. His confidence which border lines arrogance at times was appealing. Jay talked a big game on his now notorious radio "freestyles", and made himself and his movement appear bigger than the game- even if at the time, they weren't.
Anna Wintour Releases Statement on KimYe Vogue Cover
Spoken By
Kayki
The internets went crazzzzy Friday when Vogue dropped their KimYe cover. Kim Kardashian has had her eyes on the cover of Vogue Magazine for a while, as has every fashion lover in the world. It's holy in the eyes of fashionistas. So, it had to be disheartening for Kim Kardashian to hear that Vogue's Head Fashionista in Charge, Anna Wintour just didn't see it for her or her family.

Is there enough freedom in self expression?
Spoken By
Tiarah
In a country where it seems we have more freedom than most, I'm realizing that may be a big fat lie. Is freedom really freedom if the subject at hand is not respected? What if the person expressing themselves is not being respected? Now through the social networking sites and the gossip blogs, I've seen enough that shows me that there is a serious lack of respect floating around when it comes to individuals expressing themselves. From the regular folks like you and me, to the celebs and people in higher places, there is always someone out there that has something to say. In most cases the attacked target may not even see such a negative comment headed their way, because they're too busy not letting outsiders ruffle their feathers (too much). However in some cases, the target may read a thing or three in their mentions/the comment section of a blog or Instagram post.

He's been able to capture some of our favorite visuals from Queen Bey, and the ever so sexy Partition was no different. In this BTS footage, Jake opens up about what it was like to film the visuals for Beyonce's recent hit album.
Drake & Rihanna Continue to Hang Tough in Europe
Spoken By
Kayki
If Drake and Rihanna are not romantically involved they sure are making that hard to believe. Rihanna has been at almost every show of his Europian leg of WYLAT since Paris, and she even hit the stage with him one night. They've been spotted at clubs together for afterparties, hotels, and last night the two decided to hang out at a bowling alley in Manchester with some friends.

The Cast of THE GAME Stops By The Arsenio Hall Show (video)
Spoken By
Kayki
The cast from BET's The Game visited the Arsenio Hall Show last night to have a few laughs and talk about their lives on set. It turns out that actor Coby Bell is a singer low key. According to Brandy the actor can really sing. Bell admits that he was a little more confident singing before he had to do it in front of one of the best to ever do it, Brandy herself. I mean, who wouldn't be intimidated?!

12 Years A Slave Has A Huge Night at The Academy Awards Watch Lupita Nyong'o's Beautiful Speech
Spoken By
Kayki
Ever since it's premiere, the film 12 Years a Slave has received much praise. At first it was just a few black celebrities on twitter encouraging fans to check the film out. It wasn't very long after it's debut that the masses began to speak on the riveting portrayal of the story of Solomon Northup. The consensus early on was that the acting in the film was so good, that it was almost too hard to watch at times..

Personal Post: When Life Asks Us to Question God
Spoken By
Kayki
It's been a long time since I opened up and shared a post so personal, but as I sit here pondering something so difficult I seek refuge in writing it out- sometimes that helps. Being a Pastor's/Preacher's daughter, granddaughter, great granddaughter, niece, cousin, sister.. I was pretty much all but conceived in church. I'm blessed with incredible parents who not only lived Godly principles before me, but they taught me the Word of God to my understanding. Being raised in the church granted me exposure to many religious ideas and practices. The ideas of what you can and cannot wear, what you can and cannot do, and what you can and cannot say were always around me. They didn't necessarily come from the Bible, or my parents, but they were around. One of those ideas is the all so popular conviction that, "You can't question God."
