The fuss surrounding this year's biggest night in music was arguably the rumored opening by Jay Z & Beyonce. With the fan favorite collaboration, Drunk in Love from her latest self titled album.. the husband and wife duo opened up the 56th annual Grammy Awards in a major way.
Many people questioned whether Bey would actually pull of such a risque song for a show like the Grammys. Drunk In Love is definitely a mature song for a mature listener, but Bey did it any way to most of our surprise. Not only did she perform it, but she rocked a very sexy number, and hugged all up on her husband once he hit the stage with her too.
Now, if I'm totally honest there was something missing for me with this performance. I'm a fan of Beyonce, and like many, I hold her to the highest of standards when it comes to performances. Vocally, she delivered, but maybe the presentation of the song overall could've been executed better visually.
While it may not have been the hottest performance of the night for many, Jay Z sure knows how to still make Bey feel special. He was very affectionate with her the entire night. As he accepted his Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for Holy Grail ft. Justin Timberlake he took a moment to make Beyonce blush a little:
Thank you very much. Thank all the producers. Dream for writing the song. Justin and all of the uh.. typical things. I want the thank God.. a little bit for this award, but mostly for that.. and all the universe for conspiring and putting that beautiful light of a young lady in my life..and I wanna tell Blue, 'look! Daddy got a gold sippie cup for you!'
I seriously can't deal with how much Jay seems to be a great family man. I can't help but think he went in with the flattery maybe because he knew Bey needed a little extra lovin after the feedback from her performance. Either way, it was adorable to watch.
