Saturday's Global Citizen Festival held in New York brought out some of music's finest artists to help bring awareness to worldwide causes involving environmental, educational, and health issues. Stevie Wonder was the perfect artist to host the night considering his incredible impact on music and social change through it. The living legend performed a few of his hits, as well as a couple classics from other artists.
Alicia Keys, Kings of Leon, Janelle Monae, John Mayer, and Maxwell also graced the stage to perform for the 60,000 plus crowd. Tickets to such a show would cost an arm and three legs, you'd think, but most of the crowd Saturday earned their spots through volunteerism and other acts of kindness. That's a brilliant idea in itself, and what better way to thank them, then to have them serenaded by some of the industry's best.
This was the Global Poverty Project's Second annual Global Citizen Festival. Along with the 60,000+ in the audience, it's suggested that almost 15 million viewed online. The organization hopes to bring awareness and end extreme poverty around the world by 2030. A great night for a great cause.
