CHICAGO I am OVER the violence: 15 yr. Old Hadiya Pendleton Killed by Gunfire

In what appears to have been a random act of violence, 15yr. old honor student Hadiya Pendleton was gunned down in the south suburbs of Chicago. According to witnesses Hadiya and her friends were standing under a canopy to avoid a sudden shower of rain, when a gunman jumped over a fence and opened fire.

The teenagers managed to run away but Hadiya didn't make it far, collapsing just a few steps away.  Another victim, an unnamed teenage male was shot in the leg. Both were transported to Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, but Hadiya didn't make it.

Oh this is just frustrating. Chicago has always been my home away from home. I spent a lot of my childhood on the west side of Chicago. I witnessed a lot! Real dope dealers on the corners , cop chases, brutal fights, and even then, my friends on the block were dying left and right. I'm not sure what it's going to take for Chicago's violence to end. So many people have stood up against it.

People like Pastor Corey Brooks even lived on the roof of a building in the dead of last year's dreadful winter to try to do something about it. I honestly don't know what the solution is. I know we need to get these guns out of the hands of kids, and get them on a better life path. I know that it's time to pray for our youth, enforce some strict laws, and stop patticaking it up with these gangs and violent criminals. There have already been over 40 deaths in Chicago THIS YEAR. Something has to give! Chicago residents have to refuse to let the little minor things go. Our children need a firm and solid reaction to any and all violence at this point.

My heart hurts for Hadiya's family. She was a volleyball player, majorette, and had just returned from the Presidential Inauguration where she and her band performed.
