Less than a year after the passing of her Grandma Dolly, Rihanna is honoring her and giving back to her native Barbados in a huge way. The Clara Lionel Foundation is Rihanna's organization named after her grandparents..the late Clara and living Lionel Brathwaite. It's no secret that Rihanna has always had a special relationship with her Grandparents so it's only befitting that her charitable organization be named after them.
Rihanna's Grandma Dolly battled cancer for years before passing this year. Rihanna and the CLF donated three pieces of equipment to her native Barbados' Queen Elizabeth Hospital ... and not just any pieces- pieces of medical equipment worth over $3.5 Million (BDS). This is the equivalent of about $1.75 Million (USA)
The hospital in honor of such a generous gift renamed it's radiotherapy unit The Clara Brathwaite Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine.
As she spoke in front of family and the medical staff there Rihanna explained why she felt this was important.
“This was my way of giving back to Barbados in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program. I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados this was all done to save lives or at least extend it. I thank you all for being a part of it. Thank you. I’m really excited about it."It has to make Rih's family and Grand Dolly in heaven feel so proud that she'd do this. Even more important I think is the fact that she has mentioned nothing about it. People are usually so ready to tell every good deed they do, Rihanna has said nothing about this amazing gift of life and health she's given her native Barbados.
Undeniably a wonderful gift. Go Rih!
