Every year music lovers from around the country gather for one of hip hops most beloved concerts- Summer Jam. It's the stage that all of hip hops greatest have made some form of history. NY's Hot 97 and Summer Jam are staples in hip hop.
The Summer Jam stage is no stranger to controversy & beef- but it's usually between rappers. Last night it streamed live online for those of us who couldn't be there and the history making continued- it started early, and this time it was a bit different.
Hot 97 is probably most known for their very popular Morning Show- the Breakfast Club- yesterday one of the hosts/DJs of that show Peter Rosenberg for some reason said the following to the crowd during his set-
This obviously pissed YMCMB president Lil Wayne off as Starships is a single by his artist and this years Summer Jam headliner Nicki Minaj. He immediately took to his twitter acct:
I know there's some chicks here waiting to sing 'Starships' later, I'm not talking to y'all right now. F--- that bullsh--. I'm here to talk about real hip-hop sh--
Then... this from Nicki..
She followed these up with the below tweet..
My issue as I thoroughly expressed on twitter is that the fans LOSE. I personally feel like cancelling a show should only be an option when an artist in some way is totally incapable of doing their show. After their supporters have spent time, money, and energy to support their careers, pay their bills and come to their shows, they deserve a show!
I know it was rude what Rosenberg said, but at what point does Wayne realize that everybody is not going to like or respect him or his artists. In the end he let his feelings get the best of him & he and Nicki let their fans down.
While Summer Jam was an incredible hit with the likes of Nas and LAURYN HILL hitting the stage, the shots continued to be fired by top DJ Funk Flex who promised to "ruin a career" tonight on his show at 7. It was obvious the whole night that Flex especially was pissed that YM pulled out.
Fans were totally overlooked in this situation. Nicki & Wayne are too big of artists to react in THIS way to somebody's diss. Actually if you ask me, she shouldve showed up and let Rosenberg have it on the mic- THAT wouldve just continued the tradition of Summer Jam beef and she probably wouldve won this round.
Unfortunately she didn't because she let loads of fans down. I don't think Wayne was wrong for trying to demand respect for his team and his leading artist, but I think he couldve just addressed it without punishing the fans too.. lets see where this goes from here :/
