According to court documents, superstar singer and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is on the witness list for the upcoming trial of the man accused of killing her mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew in 2008.
The trial is scheduled for August 9, and prosecutors haven't disclosed whether Jennifer will actually testify at the trial of William Balfour, who was the estranged husband of Jennifer's sister Julia, according to the Chicago Tribune. Jennifer told investigators she'd known Balfour since childhood and advised her sister against marrying him. The family didn't find out about their 2006 marriage until months after it happened.Prosecutors have argued that Balfour killed the family because he was angry that Julia Hudson was dating another man. Jennifer told investigators that she talked to her mother Darnell Donerson in Chicago every day and knew something was wrong when she didn't hear from her late morning on Oct. 24, 2008, according to the Chicago Tribune. Jennifer's mother and brother Jason Hudson were found shot to death in the family home. The body of Jennifer's nephew Julian King was found days later in a vehicle several miles away. Police recovered a gun in the bushes near the vehicle and linked it to the shootings.
This has no doubt been difficult for Jennifer, but she has handled this gracefully. Stay tuned as we follow the trial this summer.
