Chicago Pastor Camping out on Motel Roof for 21 Days

Spectators visit Pastor Brooks' home for the next 21 days

Pastor Corey Brooks of New Beginnings Church is making a bold statement and with great cause. Often known to take the radical yet realistic approach in ministry, Pastor Brooks & his congregation have had enough of the violence plaguing the church's south side Woodlawn and Englewood communities . While attending a Thanksgiving Day service at his church yesterday he skyped in from the roof top of the motel across the street to give words of encouragement to his congregation..yes the roof top!

In an amazing demonstration of faith-Pastor Brooks is literally camping out on the top of a motel the church has set out to purchase and renovate for ministry and building the community. This motel was infested with prostitution, drug dealers, and other crimes before it was shut down- mainly due to the efforts of New Beginnings Ministry. This process has been long and hard, but the Ministry has grown stronger and more dedicated with every day.  Naturally to actually acquire such a property, one needs finances, lots of finances.

New Beginnings Church are spearheading Project H.O.O.D. (Helping Others Obtain Destiny) in an effort to raise the $450,000 needed to purchase the motel. Pastor Brooks is hoping that his demonstration on the roof will help people to understand the seriousness of their plight. They are hoping that with the help of believers around the world and power from above- they will be able to do so in 21 days. That is how long Pastor Brooks plans to sleep on the top of the motel on King Dr. As if sleeping on top of a building in the heart of November in Chicago isnt enough, Brooks is also fasting. His rooftop experience consists of nothing but a tent, his laptop, phone, a  space heater, portable toilet, and water....for 21 days.

WGN news and others were there to witness him make his abode there just one day before Thanksgiving. Click to watch WGN's coverage.

While speaking during the Thanksgiving service via webcam, Pastor Brooks joked a bit with his congregation about eating turkey for him. As they laughed together the congregation as a whole all got to witness just how sincere Brooks is about this bold statement of faith. "I want to come down from here, but we HAVE to act. I pity the person who lives their life and never stood for anything." he calmly told the congregation. After sharing he briefly gave parishioners an overview of how a few well known Bishops and Pastors from around the world had already given a gift to help in their efforts. This news was welcomed by the congregants as it is well known and understood that they'd like to own that building as soon as possible, but most importantly, they'd like to see their Pastor off of the roof top!

Having such an incredible strength in faith to do what Pastor Brooks and New Beginnings is doing, is simply amazing to me, and Im sure to anyone else who hears this story. The saying goes that, desperate times call for desperate measures, and in a world shaped in violence and crime around the ministry of New Beginnings, Pastor Brooks has answered the call. My prayers are with him, his wife and kids, and congregation as a whole during this amazing experience! If you would like to help in any way please visit for more information.
