Riots spread in London

Thousands of young people stormed the streets of London over the past few days, setting four cities on fire and looting shops, according to BBC reports.

What exactly the people want isn't clear, but it reminds us of uprisings against the establishment in African and middle eastern countries earlier in the year. Over 700 people have been arrested and nearly 100 have been charged with various offenses. Thousands of police officers are being dispatched in Birmingham, Liverpool, Nottingham and Bristol.

Unrest began last Saturday after a peaceful protest in Tottenham over the fatal shooting of a man by police. Check out an interview by BBC with a journalist, Darcus Howe, that gets pretty testy.
